Installing Ice Maker Line – DIY on ice maker line installation is not difficult. However, you need to know what you are doing before you start working on this project. Essentially, the water line will run from your sink plumbing all the way to your fridge to create an ice maker. The process is pretty easy and the following instructions can also help you if you wish to replace your existing water line.

What You Need
You need:
– A Refrigerator Icemaker Kit
– An Adjustable Wrench or Pliers
– A Utility Knife

1. Preparation
Start by turning off the water leading to the line. The water supply is located right under the sink. Your icemaker kit should also come with more information about the location of the water supply.

2. Prepare the Refrigerator
Then, move your fridge from the wall and remove all kick plates that may have been installed at the lower part of the cabinet close to the floor. If you wish to replace the ice maker line, unscrew the brass nut found on the valve of your old line from under the sink and remove the line. The line will typically be located close to the back of the fridge at the lower right edge.

3. Unpack Your Icemaker
Your ice maker kit should have a water line, a new valve, a coupler, and a couple of brass parts (such as ferrules and nuts). Get these parts out of their packaging and install the first end of the line to your refrigerator. Do this by threading the water line through the nut and add one of the ferrules to the line. Then, screw the nut firmly in place on the fridge valve using your hands. Then, tighten it with a half turn of your pliers or wrench.

4. Lay the Line
The next DIY on ice maker line installation tip will have you loosely running your line under your cabinets. Leave enough slack to ensure that the line isn’t tense and cannot pull out of the nuts and valves.

If you are using a new line and you have never installed one on your fridge before, you will need to add a valve to the cold water line from under the kitchen sink. Your ice maker should have a clamp and a valve for this express purpose.

Place the valve above the cold water line and add the clamp at the bottom. Then, tighten the screws to hold in place before piercing through the line by turning the valve handle counter-clockwise.

Then, cut your line to length and turn on the water to check whether there are leaks. If there are, tighten all nuts on the valve with a pair of pliers or with your wrench until the leaks stop.

However, if your line is a replacement, you should follow all the steps above without drilling holes in your cabinet or adding valves. Then, screw in the nut with the ice maker line on the current valve.
